Interesting Article On Social Media Consultants

Maybe it's just me because I want to be employed in this area of the industry, or as an online community manager. But I found the following article "The True Value of Social Media Consultants" very interesting, and thought it would be of value to folks in decision making positions to read.

Interesting but limited I think. I'm not sure that the three measures at the end are naturally right. I can think of several influential blogs where people don't comment because they don't want to be identified. That is really influential!

I also worry about webstat. I use two systems. The first is a system that comes with my web space. The second is Google anyletics. Both give different results and I've begun to realise that I can rely on them for different things, although haven't tested this out fully.

The Google system is very convenient but it is not the only option. I do worry about a world that is dominated by Google, especially as some of its measures don't seem to be as effective!

BTW, what the hell are you doing on boring blogger? What's wrong with Wordpress?

Andy,
I have access to two stats programs with Bluehost Awstat and Webalizer. Webalizer always gives higher figures than Awstat using the same log files! So I have always used the lower figure given by Awstat to get an idea of how well whitespider1066.com is doing. But recently started using Google Analytics as well to see how that compares. Which surprise surprise gives different figures again. Just to cloud the water even more I am using a Blogmetrics plugin and also Statspress plugin on whitespider1066.com as well. I'll put the link up (I booked marked it) in a post over the weekend for why I am looking at the Blogmetrics. The Statpress is handy for "spying" on current blog activity.
The stats I am sticking with though will be the Awstat because that is where my last year+ of figures is being kept. I will use GA to get experience in using that.
Now why Blogger and not with my beloved wordpress? I wanted experience using blogger so I can contribute to supporting our friends over at OBF and not have everything fall on Duncan for blogger.
